Clean Up Group Photos and Park Snaps

Strangers crossing the back of a group photo pull attention away from your friends. Mark the jogger, the dog walker or anyone else in the background and the AI fills the path and lawn behind them.

Take Pedestrians Out of Cafe and Street Shots

How to Remove People From a Photo on iPhone

  1. Open Your Photo
Open YouCam Makeup on your iPhone, tap Photo Edit, choose a photo from your library, and pick the “Removal” tool. Start from the original photo, not a screenshot, for the cleanest fill.
  2. Brush Over the Person
Paint over the person you want to remove. Zoom in and cover their shadow too, so nothing is left behind.
  3. Tap Apply
Tap “Apply” and the app removes the person and fills in the background. For a crowded scene, remove one or two people at a time.
  4. Check the Edges and Save
Zoom in on the filled area. If a spot looks off, undo and brush it again, then save the photo to your library.
Tips for Cleaner Results on iPhone

The Removal tool fills in the gap from the pixels around it, so a little care when you brush makes the result look more natural.

Brush the shadow too

A person's shadow gives the edit away. Zoom in and brush the shadow along with the person so both disappear together.

Remove crowds in small steps

In a busy square, remove the people closest to your subject first, check the result, then continue with the rest.

Plain backgrounds fill best

Sand, sky and smooth walls are the easiest to rebuild. Busy patterns such as tiles or fences may need a second pass.

Does the iPhone Photos app have a built-in way to remove people?

accordion icon

Yes, on some models. The Photos app has a Clean Up tool, but Apple says it needs a supported device running iOS 18.1 or later with Apple Intelligence: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 models. It also does not work on devices bought in mainland China. See Apple’s support page for the current list. YouCam Makeup’s Removal tool is part of an app you open directly, so it does not depend on Apple Intelligence.

Can I remove several people from one photo?

accordion icon

Yes. Brush over each person you want gone. In a crowded scene, remove one or two people at a time and check the fill before you continue.

What if the person overlaps my subject or stands in front of a busy pattern?

accordion icon

These cases are harder because the app has less clean background to copy from. Zoom in, brush carefully along the edges, and undo and try again if a spot looks off. Plain backgrounds such as sand, sky or smooth walls usually give the most natural fill.

Why does a faint shadow or outline sometimes remain?

accordion icon

Shadows and reflections are part of the person in the photo. Brush over them along with the person before you tap “Apply”.

Can I use YouCam Makeup on Android too?

accordion icon

Yes. YouCam Makeup is available on both iPhone and Android.
