YouCam Perfect is available in the App Store and on Google Play to download for free.  Tap the download button to start the process and start making your edits right away.

Step 2. Remove the Background From Your Passport Photo

Select Photo Edit to open your phone’s photo gallery. Then, choose the passport photo you want to edit and upload it to the app.

Tap the Remove BG tool to open your options for your new background.

Step 3. Apply a Solid White Background

In the toolbar at the bottom of the app, choose the Color tab. Then, add a solid white background to your photo.

Because of passport requirements, you can only add a white background if you want the photo to be usable for your passport image. Some requirements also don’t allow you to digitally add a white background, so check before you do this!

Step 4. Remove Flyaway Hairs

If you're taking a passport photo and your hair gets in your face, don't worry. You can use YouCam Perfect's Removal tool to edit away those pesky flyaway hairs and create a polished final image. This tool is also great for removing other unwanted objects in your photo, like blemishes or distracting backgrounds.

Step 5. Crop and Resize Your Passport Photo

To resize your image and get the right passport photo size, go to Crop & Rotate. There, you can resize your passport photo to the perfect size you prefer.

For a US passport photo, you’ll want a 1:1 ratio, which YouCam Perfect provides, and you can apply it by tapping on the 1:1 square at the bottom of the screen. You can also manually adjust your crop. Don’t forget to position your photo to clearly show your face.

Suppose you need to crop the photo to the specified ID photo size, but YouCam Perfect doesn't support the ratio; you can find many professional online ID photo resizing websites like 123PassportPhoto. After completing the photo editing for your ID photo, you can save the photo and print it out.

Step 6. Export Your Finished Passport Photo

How To Take a Good Passport Photo by Yourself at Home

When taking a good passport photo, you need to make sure you meet the photo requirements. You can make some edits to improve your photo after you take it, but there are a few things you can do to ensure you have the best possible photo to work with. Here are a few tips for taking your passport photo at home:

  • Stand in front of a white background
  • Take your photo indoors with good lighting, but stay out of direct sunlight
  • Get a close-up photo of your head and shoulders
  • Don’t cover your face or wear a hat in your photo
  • Look directly at the camera when taking your photo

Before you take your photo, make sure you check the passport photo requirements. Some countries don’t allow you to digitally edit a white background into your photo, and you want to ensure you send an acceptable photo the first time.

U.S. Passport Photo Requirements

Before you take your passport shots, it’s a good idea to check the requirements so that you do everything right. The United States requires that you meet these criteria before you submit your photo:

  • Take your photo in color
  • Use a recent photo, from within the last six months
  • Take a clear photo without filters
  • Remove your glasses for the photo
  • Only white or off-white backgrounds allowed
  • No shadows, textures, lines, or designs in the background

Your photo should have a 1:1 ratio with space around your head and shoulders to leave room for the photo to be cropped. Make sure it’s at least 600 x 600 pixels and your head and shoulders are visible.

U.K. Passport Photo Requirements

The U.K. has its own rules for taking your passport photo, so make sure you check them before you snap your passport photo. Here’s what you need to do to meet the U.K. passport photo requirements before you send yours in:

  • Have your photo taken within a month before you use it
  • Take a color photo with a clear focus
  • Don’t digitally alter your photo
  • Adjust the size to at least 600 x 750 pixels
  • Have clear background contrast with a light background color
  • Keep other people, objects, and shadows out of the photo
  • Keep your face and head uncovered, except for religious or medical reasons

Knowing the passport photo requirements before you submit your U.K. passport photo makes your image more likely to be accepted the first time.
