How to Remove Unwanted Objects in Your Photos
Jan 23, 2021 · 3 minutes read

You’ve taken the perfect photo — you’ve scouted the location, the lighting is ideal, the look is on-point — and you suddenly realize that a photobomber has snuck into the background or an object in the foreground takes the attention away from the main focal point of the photo. It’s time for some editing, and the YouCam Perfect app has made erasing an object from a photo an easy process. You don’t need to be a professional photo retoucher to edit objects out of a photo.

Erasing an object from your picture may seem like a difficult task. You’ll need to define it in the image, mark it, delete it, and then make sure the now-open space is filled properly. Luckly, YouCam Perfect does it all for you.

When to use the object removal tool

Your vacation beach photo has an unwanted background guest. A shadow distracts from the intended main subject. Your background includes some not-so-appealing clutter. Now’s the time to use the object removal tool and optimize your photo for sharing.

In those instances where your photo features elements you don’t want in the final image, YouCam Perfect has you covered. Its smart “Removal” tool is able to intelligently remove and mask the item from your photo. It’s your ultimate photo object eraser.

How to erase objects from your photo

Ready to get started? Here’s how to use the YouCam Perfect “Removal” tool.

Once you’ve imported your image into the app, click on the “Removal” tool to begin. Choose the size of your brush (it ranges from size 0 to 100 to give you optimal customization options and to help pinpoint even the smallest of items) and then begin drawing over the item you wish to remove. Once you’ve highlighted the object to remove (it will now appear highlighted in red), click “Remove.” The app will instantaneously process the object removal, create a filler background in its place, and you’ll see the edited image — sans unwanted items.

Pro tip: Make sure to highlight an area slightly larger than your subject. This way, the app’s technology will remove the entirety of the item, without leaving behind a border or any leftover object edges.

Using the smart brush tool

To make the object removal process even easier, turn on the “Smart Brush” tool. With this tool selected, you do not have to highlight the entire object you wish to delete. Instead, simply tap on any portion of the item (say, a street sign, promotional banner, beverage can, or anything else you want eliminated), and the Smart Brush will find the entire item within the photo and highlight it for removal, further easing up and speeding up your entire editing process.

Using the person detection feature

Looking to remove a tourist in the background, a surprise photobomber, or even an ex? The smart person detection tool was designed to help detect and remove people from your photos. Click on the person avatar at the bottom of the editing screen. Once you’ve done that, the tool will highlight all of the identified people in the photo. If you’d like to remove a wider selection, simply use the brush to highlight additional people or objects. Again, once you’re ready, click “Remove” and the app will begin to work its magic.

Pro tip: You don’t have to select all your intended objects at once! The removal tool was designed to be flexible. As you’re editing your photo and removing people or objects, you can continue to remove additional selections at any point. If you forgot to highlight a certain part of an item, you don’t need to undo your work to make the selection from scratch. Simply highlight whatever was missed, and click “Remove” to re-process the photo.

Once you’ve edited your photo to have only the objects you wish to be included, take advantage of any additional editing tools. Add in effects or animations, blend to create a double exposure image, wrap it in a creative frame, or add text, stickers, photos, and more. Your editing possibilities are endless.
