Since the end of the First World War, Commonwealth member states have observed Remembrance Day to commemorate those who have died in the line of duty. What Is Remembrance Day?
Since 1919, Remembrance Day—originally called Armistice Day—has been observed in honour of the armistice agreement on 11 November 1918, that ended World War I. After World War II, the British government changed the name, as it became a day to commemorate all who died in the line of duty since WWI.

The red poppy is the most recognisable symbol of Remembrance Day. It stands for peace and hope for the future, and they were the only bright spots in Flanders Fields among the fighting on the Western front. The poppies were the only flowers that could grow in the barren landscape, and now they bring people of many different backgrounds together on Remembrance Day.
Aside from wearing red poppies, the British Commonwealth also observes two minutes of silence to reflect and remember those lost since WWI. It also plays the Last Post and recites “In Flanders Fields,” a poem written by John McCrae. McCrae wrote the poem in 1915, inspired by the Flanders Fields poppies after he lost his friend to the war.

Remembrance Day Poppy Template
The Remembrance Day poppy flower template shows off bright red poppies against a soft pink and white watercolour background.
