Situation: Helping Estheticians Show Guests their Skin Needs 

Face Haus, with its call to action, “Facials for the People,” is an open concept facial bar established in 2013 and with its skincare cpg division founded in 2019. As a brand and business, its focus is in providing accessible skincare treatments without the high price or pretension. 

Face Haus estheticians (or “esthies”) customize treatments based on skin type and condition, using clean, science backed product lines and physician designed protocols. The company operates free-standing stores in California and Texas, sells products from its website, in addition to this, its Esthies provide skincare treatments at membership based Chase Sapphire Airport Lounges, nationwide.  

The company’s estheticians had long used questionnaires to better understand a client’s skincare concerns. To enhance the process, Face Haus had an aim to deploy an augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) solution, but needed to find a technology partner that could provide the highest quality skin analysis.

Face Haus worked closely with Perfect Corp., including use of Perfect Corp. skin analysis technology, to launch its Skin IQ tool, which allows its in-house estheticians to use a tablet to take a picture to perform an AI skin analysis. The Skin IQ tool provides a skin score across multiple skin conditions, including oiliness, pores, moisture, wrinkles, acne, texture and dark spots. The Skin IQ tool also suggests products for ongoing at home skincare, which the esthetician can accept or modify.

Face Haus even sees returning customers within the Chase Sapphire Airport Lounges. “We don’t track guests visiting the Chase Sapphire lounges, but anecdotally, we hear stories from business travelers who return, remember their esthetician, and their skin scores, and say ‘My skin's improved, so what’s next?’ This is a positive experience for our guests and for our estheticians alike.”

Skin IQ Provides Validation for Estheticians and Guest

Skin IQ provides data-driven, visual validation for what the trained esthetician is seeing as they analyze the skin condition of a guest. “The esthetician is talking to the guest while examining their skin using a maglight, but the guest is unable to see their face during this process,” Namrata says. “Using Skin IQ provides a visual validity to what the esthetician is saying. The guest can see actual numerical values for all areas of skin concern. With Skin IQ there’s a realism to it, a reality to it, versus someone saying this is what's going on with your skin. The visual validation is powerful for both the esthetician and their guest.”

The skin analysis cores provided through Skin IQ help build a meaningful rapport between estheticians and their guests.
